There are two types of user accounts that can be provisioned in strongDM: Service Accounts and User accounts.
A Service Account provides programmatic access to resources via strongDM. Service Accounts are for machines, programs, or applications that authenticate with admin tokens to access automated processes or any automated function that needs resource access. User accounts, however, are for individual human users who authenticate with email address and password to access resources.
Access to resources is granted to a Service Account through Role Membership, via the Static and Dynamic Access Rules that have been defined for that Role. For more information, see Roles.
Both Service Accounts and User accounts are provisioned within the strongDM Admin UI. To learn how to create, view, and use Service Accounts, see the Admin UI Guide.
