GUI Tour

The strongDM GUI is available for both Mac and Windows. Here is a quick overview of what you'll see and how to use it.

Port overrides enabled
Port overrides enabled

At the top of the window is the SDM status bar, which should read online (1). If it remains in reconnecting state indefinitely, please contact your administrator.

The datasources are listed by type, and each has a port number next to it (2), unless port overrides are disabled, in which case see the next section. To connect to a datasource, click its name and a green lightning bolt will appear, indicating that the port is now open. You can then proceed to use your existing database, SSH, or RDP client to connect.

For Mac users, it is often more convenient to use the CLI to connect to SSH servers.

Finally, you may see a datasource picker link at the bottom of the window (**3**). If this bar is visible, it means that you may have more datasources available than are currently visible. Click it to open the datasource picker, described below.

Port Overrides

By default, every resource that is created is assigned a port override value. This is the port that you will use to connect to the resource.

In this configuration, when you click to connect to a datasource, it will use the default configured port for that datasource type. If you connect to another datasource of the same type, the first datasource will be disconnected.

In this window you can configure the datasources and servers visible in the main window. Click on each datasource to toggle its visibility: green is visible, blue is hidden.
