You should have received an email inviting you to your strongDM account. Open the invitation email and click the enclosed link to set your password.
After logging in, download the Windows client, or directly with this link. The file will appear as:
SDM Setup <VERSION_NUMBER>.exe
To install strongDM from the downloaded file, double click the downloaded .exe file and run its installation.
To launch the application, open the start menu and search programs for “sdm” or navigate to the downloads folder. Launch the
Next, you’ll need to click on the SDM icon in the system tray, typically found in the lower right of your screen.
Login with email address and password that you used in the first step.
Once you have logged in, a list of datasources and servers you have permission to access will appear in the SDM system tray menu.
To enable a connection to one of the servers or datasources, simply click the one you’d like to access. A green icon will appear next to the datasource you’ve connected to. At this point you may connect to it with your preferred tool using
127.0.0.1 and the listed port. To disconnect, simply click the named instance and you’ll see the green icon disappear. This will break any existing database connections to this instance.

Copy this file to a directory in your
PATH. We suggest
C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Microsoft\WindowsApps\sdm.exe but any location specified in
PATH is acceptable.
Note: We suggest calling the copied file
sdm.exe rather than
sdm32.exe so that you can call it via
C:\> sdm <command> which is consistent with CLI usage throughout the strongDM documentation.
C:\> sdm statusat the command line. It should return a list of configured datasources.
